According To Arkham, Coinbase Is The Largest Bitcoin Entity In The World By Bitcoin Volume
Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, is said to have about $25 billion in Bitcoin reserves. This sum is comparable to the Bitcoins held by Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous founder of Bitcoin.
According to Arkham Intelligence, Coinbase's Bitcoin holdings make them the largest Bitcoin entity in the world, accounting for about 5% of all Bitcoin in existence. The exact size of Nakamoto's Bitcoin holdings, however, is uncertain. Between January and July 2009, Nakamoto is thought to have mined over 1 million BTC. If Nakamoto still has these coins, they are worth almost $26 billion.
Bitcoin trading accounts for 40% of overall trading volume and 39% of transaction revenue for Coinbase. While Arkham's estimate is based on Coinbase wallets, the exchange's most recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing claimed that it has $60.7 billion in client assets and liabilities in Bitcoin.
