Boris Johnson has raised eyebrows after it was announced that he's going to be the keynote speaker at a blockchain conference.

The former British prime minister — who has just failed at a second attempt to secure the top job — will make an appearance at Singapore's International Symposium on Blockchain Advancements in December.

Johnson is set to be joined by former U.S. vice president Dick Cheney at the event, and it's fair to say that both will be compensated handsomely for their appearances.

Reports suggest that the ex-PM was paid over $150,000 for taking part in a 30-minute speech and a 45-minute fireside chat where he regaled the audience with tales of sharing "fancy" French wine with Germany's former chancellor.

At present, there's little detail on what Johnson will actually be discussing during his blockchain-focused speech — but the comedian Dom Joly had a guess by tweeting:

"Hello folks…ummmm….blockchain….internet thingamejiminy….internetus maximus goodus…ummmm…information highway….shiny and exciting…cheque please!"

In case you're unfamiliar with Johnson's style, this is a reference to his bumbling, chaotic speaking style — and passion for using Latin phrases.

An unusually high number of British politicians have ended up receiving well-paid positions in crypto after leaving office — with ex-chancellor Philip Hammond now a senior advisor at digital asset custody firm Copper.

Matt Hancock, who was forced to resign as health secretary after breaking social distancing rules by kissing a colleague during lockdown restrictions, has also spoken of his enthusiasm for digital assets — and was due to give a keynote speech at the CryptoAM summit in London later this month.

He might struggle to attend as it's now been announced that he's going to be a contestant on the popular British reality TV series I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! — a show that's renowned for forcing stars to eat unpleasant dishes such as kangaroo testicles.

Hancock has faced criticism for entering the Australian jungle — in a rumored six-figure deal — and has now been suspended as a Conservative MP.
