Blockchain Technology and Islamic Finance Converge at Istanbul Blockchain Week

Istanbul Blockchain Week 2023 saw the convergence of Islamic finance and Web3, with the main stage hosting speeches, workshops and a hackathon focused on promoting ethical finance and sustainable development.

The event, which took place on Aug. 22 and 23 at the Hilton Istanbul Bomonti in Istanbul, was a strategic decision, according to Erhan Korhaliller, founder and CEO of EAK Digital. The sweltering Dubai summer heat makes hosting mid-year events there challenging. So the organizers targeted Istanbul as a cosmopolitan substitute conveniently near the UAE.

The event showcased the latest developments in AI and Web3, and explored the intersection of these technologies with Islamic finance.

IstanHack hackathon's focus centered on addressing Islamic finance needs. With a target market of 1.9 billion people, many in this community feel unserved by traditional banking given restrictions on interest. More than the prize money, the hackathon aimed to inspire young talent to build beyond typical DeFi offerings.

One of the key themes of the event was the potential of blockchain technology to promote ethical finance and sustainable development.

The event was attended by a diverse range of participants, including blockchain developers, investors, and representatives from Islamic communities. The event provided a platform for these stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations.
