Linea has identified and excluded 516,960 Sybil addresses from its upcoming token airdrop. The Ethereum layer-2 network, operational since July 2023, collaborated with blockchain analytics firm Nansen to analyze previously eligible wallets for signs of Sybil behavior, characterized by automated and coordinated activities across related wallets.
This analysis flagged approximately 516,960 out of 1,297,203 eligible addresses as potentially fraudulent, reducing the number of valid addresses to 780,243.
The initiative seeks to ensure that the airdrop reaches legitimate users, maintaining the integrity of the distribution process.
To promote transparency, Linea has established a dedicated webpage where users can check if their addresses have been marked as Sybil. Flagged individuals can submit an appeal if they believe an error has occurred.
In addition to the airdrop, Linea is preparing for a Token Generation Event, expected in the first quarter of 2025.
This follows the launch of the nonprofit Linea Association in November 2022, aimed at overseeing governance and decentralization efforts.
The forthcoming token will play a key role in transitioning the zkEVM to a permissionless system. Details regarding the token's design, economics, and a snapshot of user activity for allocations are still pending.
