The Information Commissions Office Will Review Worldcoin to Ensure It Complies With the General Data Protection Regulation

Worldcoin, founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, will be looked into by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Worldcoin, which went live on Monday, bills itself as a digital passport that allows users to demonstrate that they are human. Since the project's beta launch, it has amassed 2 million users around the globe.

The ICO will review the project to ensure it complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and has a clear legal basis for processing personal data.

According to the ICO, organizations must rely on consent that is willingly provided, and removable without harm.

The Worldcoin Foundation abides by stringent privacy standards, according to a corporate spokesman, and "are continuing to assess local laws and regulations to ensure compliance."

According to the Worldcoin Foundation, Worldcoin complies fully with all laws and rules governing the collecting and sharing of biometric data, including the General Data Protection Regulation in Europe.
